Three Reasons To Go Through A Prosthetics Education Program As A Plastic Surgeon

Plastic surgeons perform a number of surgeries, from those that aid in aesthetically changing the face and body, to necessary changes in order to help better the daily lives of those with a disability. Surgeries for those who suffer from a disability or a trauma that caused the loss of a limb are often for the purpose of helping to make these limbs more usable. If you are a plastic surgeon who helps those who have a disability due to amputation, here are three reasons to go through a prosthetics education program.

Learning to attach prosthetics can become a part of your surgeries

If clients come to you for repairs to a limb that has had trauma, it is convenient for them to be able to have their surgery and receive a prosthetic at the same place. As a doctor, you will be able to match up the dimensions of the prosthetic immediately after surgery and order the prosthetic in the perfect size. As their primary doctor for the surgery, you will be able to have appointments with them to check up on any physical changes that could cause the prosthetic to need resizing. Being able to prompt all of the necessary changes for a prosthetic application, from surgery to attachment will make the process more seamless for your patients.

Prosthetics could increase your audience

Although plastic surgeons are always popular, certain types of surgeries will ebb and flow depending on the current climate of beauty. For instance, Brazilian butt lift surgery appointments often decrease when the standard of beauty trends toward a more lean figure. In many cities and countries, news of a recession halts many plastic surgery plans in an attempt to tighten the purse strings. By becoming a doctor that is qualified in prosthetics, you will be able to increase your audience to those who will be having plastic surgery for noncosmetic issues. Many times, insurance will cover surgeries for physical trauma that will aid in quality of life. By gaining a prosthetics clientele, you will gain a wider audience in your career field.

You can expand your practice to include an orthotics

One main specialty is plenty for a lot of doctors. However, if you have found yourself wanting to expand your practice, especially if you want to build a large medical compound, you should seek to hire doctors with a similar specialty range. Hiring an orthotics doctor to prepare new prosthetics for patients will expand both your careers and lead to a larger medical practice.

About Me

A Teacher in Training

Even though I'm not a teacher, teaching is where I feel most at home. I actually have quite a bit of experience teaching non-professionally. For example, I teach Bible class to the 14-year-olds in my church, and I have volunteered teaching English abroad in 2 different countries. Granted, it's nothing that anyone would pay me for. I've never really had any formal training. I just love helping others learn something new about the world! But I'm thinking about going back to school to get a teaching certificate. This blog is to help me decide if that's really what I want to do. So while it's mostly for my own personal use, I hope you can learn something new too.
